July's goals ~ an update

So far in July, I've:
  • reviewed three songs with previously completed vox and sent them to Billy in raw format for him to mix for the album - one of them I added some harmonies to ;
  • recorded vocals for one of the new songs, titled "The Shade of My Day", and sent an .mp3 version to Billy for approval or ... disapproval ;) ;
  • got halfway through recording rough vocals for an 8-minute track.

For the rest of July, I need to:

  • finish off the 8-minute track and send in .mp3 format to Billy for dis/approval ;
  • go back to the song I've been avoiding for months now, which I have to record new vocals (to new lyrics and, I believe, an entirely new melody) for, and ... do it!!

I hope you are having a great July so far.
Happy belated 4th of July to all my American friends out there! :)

Oh, oh, oh - a P.S. is in order.

    1. Not doing too badly so far. Got to get some more done this evening! It's hard to motivate myself when it's cold and I just wanna snuggle on the couch with chocolate and a DVD. haha

    1. Me, too! Got my post all ready to go.

      I finished another song last night, but these are all first takes, so I might still have work to do on them. gotta be done by July's end, or even earlier really so that Billy can do the final mixing.

  5. oh! wow! Question, and sorry if you've talked about this in a previous post.
    Does your music influence your writing and vice versa? If so, how does that work?

    1. My writing and music are largely separate, but I definitely have songs that are inspired by my novels. One of my little songs is about a character who dies in one of my books. But I think I only have about 3 songs that are for a "soundtrack" for my novel.

  6. Sounds like you've got some good music happenings going on! I miss the music sometimes. Right now quite a lot for some reason. If I weren't so old, I'd do something about it but I just don't have the energy (or time). Cheers!

    1. When you don't have the energy or time, there's not much that can be done. I haven't had much music energy this year, which is why I am having to work overtime now to catch up. But I'm quite enjoying myself at the moment. I think maybe a firm deadline is what I needed. ;)

  7. Good luck with your musical goals! I've always been a bit envious of people with musical talent, since I can't sing worth jack and never got around to taking an instrument. I don't even know how to read music or write a real song.

    1. Well, I don't know how to read music either. I guess I know some basics about the terminology, as my aunty gave me piano lessons when I was a kid. But I never really got the hang of reading music.

      I only got to grade 2 of piano, and as for guitar, I taught myself, and still have much to learn.

  8. I wish I could sing and create music. I write lyrics all the time, but I don't have any other skills beyond that. It's dream to hear my lyrics as music.

    Good luck with all of your musical goals! :D

    1. I started out writing lyrics, as well - some of my high school poems, which were written as lyrics, still provide inspiration today. :)

  9. Good to see writers aren't the only ones who put off working on our projects! Best of luck with reaching all your goals.

  11. People who can write music amaze me. It's such a gift, like painting.

    1. I started out by learning other people's songs that I loved. Then I just messed around with chords and my 'messings' wound up as songs. :P

  12. Hooray for all that music! I'm definitely going to have to join that bloghop, too. It doesn't get much better than music and summer.

    Speaking of bloghops, remember that super long time ago when you tagged me in the writing process bloghop? My email had a huge hiccup, and I usually only check comments through email so I totally missed your tag until I found Crystals and realized I was tagged by you too. . . yeah. Long story. But if it brings you any closure, I did it! ;)

  14. Sweet! It's been so long since I did any recording, and I kind of miss it. Granted, we no longer have a sound studio, so it makes it difficult, but one day. One day.

    1. Well, I admit that I do all my recording just in my living room. ;) But it comes out sounding pretty good, all things considered!
